Mood board..

From my mood board you can see that i like the gore aspect of horrors, with lots of blood, weapons and graphic scenes.  The use of strange weapons is clear with an axe being used in one, a large block object in another and a selection of tools shown from Hostel also.  There are references to more psychological horrors like Silence of the Lambs, with Hannibal Lector behind bars in a prison cell (a very famous scene) and from the same film the reference to 'psychiatrist' being involved in a murder.  I think that newspaper clippings and television reports, if used correctly, can be very effective, as can images of victims which are used effectively in Saw, Seven, to name a few.
Other aspects which I picked up on was the use of lighting, from the candles which not only create light, but an eerie tone, the overall darkness used in horrors and the use of light to create shadows which I think is a very effective technique also.
It is clear that I prefer male killers, but ones which are shown as the lead protagonist like Jack in The Shining, and Hannibal in Silence of the Lambs.  I think that this gives the film a twist as you understand them the most yet they are the ones we fear.
I haven't really shown the 'final girl' as I think for our trailer it needs to stand out and break the usual conventions. However I have shown the female lead in Eden Lake, who I found very interesting as she began very feminine in flowing dresses and a rather traditional as a dainty, clever school teacher and ends up a brutal, dirty, strong woman.
I also included police tape as I like the idea of a normal crime, where the police get involved rather than horror which takes place unbeknown to the law.  Also the large bloody handprint, the bloody handprints on the wall and the hands against the window are commonly used in horror and I think it is very effective, and easy to do.
The other main ideas which I included was the use of young children with the school photos, I like the idea of including children as they connote innocence and purity and act as binary oppositions and are juxtaposed against the evil backdrop of horrors.  I think that young children when they are evil or 'creepy' are most successful, and the use of the past, with black and white photos and other references can also re-enforce this.
I also included blurry images which I find are very interesting when used within horror as it reinforces the unknown and the confusion which the plot presents.

All in all, I would like to include as many of these ideas in my final product as I can, as I think it will make for a more interesting trailer.
